Building Impact Investing’s First Structured Rotational Training Program
The Capital Activation Fellowship: a paid, full-time pathway for people from outside finance into the seats where capital actually gets allocated. Built with Impact Charitable and a coalition of host organizations.
Why this, why now
Every serious profession trains through rotation. Impact investing never did.
Medicine, the mechanical trades, and finance learned long ago that people are not made by the classroom alone. You send them through residency: rotations across disciplines, mentors, and cases, until judgment becomes instinct. Wall Street runs analyst development programs that move every analyst through structured rotations before they are trusted to lead.
Nothing like it exists for our field
Impact investing, restorative finance, and the solidarity economy still train one ad-hoc internship at a time, while trying to move capital toward racial and economic justice.
Fewer, deeper partnerships
Not more internships. Anchor organizations commit to a structured rotation, in exchange for a dependable source of trained, paid talent, year-round.
You’re not joining a program. You’re setting the curriculum the field will eventually run on.
The model
A rotational fellowship, not a rotating door
Nine fellows spend one fully funded year inside Venture Partners, with salary, healthcare, and travel support. They complete a full-time, four-rotation year, beginning together at Venture Partners and then moving through three host organizations, building range across the impact investing ecosystem.
Learn the frameworks
Venture Partners’ proven curriculum: financial acumen, capital instruments, impact investing, and solidarity-economy frameworks.
Work inside a host
Fellows work at their current host organization, on live portfolio, grantmaking, and fund work.
Capital projects, case study days
Scoped projects for project partners, plus case days with Collective Action for Just Finance funds and Just Economy Institute alumni.
Reflect and choose
Dedicated job coaches help fellows learn which organizations and environments fit their strengths.
Full-time focus is offered as a genuine opportunity, not a hidden prerequisite. It is what every successful residency model asks for, and it levels the playing field for women and people of color who are often expected to build the same expertise while stretching across side jobs and caregiving.

Why rotational beats one-to-one
Everyone in the room is better for it
A standardized path
Portfolio management, due diligence, grantmaking, fund structuring, and impact measurement, not the luck of a single placement. Paid salary, healthcare, and travel replace the unpaid internship entirely.
A steady bench of trained talent
A fresh team of Venture Partners-trained fellows every rotation, deployed against live work, without building one-to-one onboarding capacity from scratch.
A repeatable, credentialed pathway
The same structured on-ramp that has driven retention and career-tracking in traditional finance, built for a field that has never had one.
Partners
Our partners for the 2027–2028 cycle are selected
Impact Charitable, Kensington Corridor Trust, and Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians anchor the founding cohort, alongside project partners who scope three-month capital projects. While our partners for the 2027–2028 cycle are already chosen, we are always interested in meeting organizations for our expansion tracks.
Host a rotation, set the standard
Anchors host a batch of fellows at a time, own a part of the shared curriculum, and receive funding for a dedicated staff role that grows into a standing Residency Lead.
Scope a three-month project
Define one discrete piece of work, such as a standardized diligence process or a refined post-investment workflow, and a trained team of fellows delivers it.

Replicable by design
One pilot, three tracks
This is only the pilot stage. Partners already want to carry the model into new communities and regions.
Core track
Nine fellows, four rotations, and the founding Advisory Council shape the first full version of the curriculum.
Indigenous track
A track designed for the Indigenous community, with its own host organizations, curriculum advisors, and cohort.
Led by Vanessa Roanhorse (Rematriating Economies) and Alexander Sterling (Turtle Island Community Capital).
European track
A European expansion adapting the rotational model for the field and funders across Europe, again with its own hosts, advisors, and cohort.
Led by Kate Harmatz (Barking & Dagenham Giving) and Amina Ahmed (SHIFT).
The ripple
What the pathway looks like over time
Each fellow is placed into a capital-deploying organization, and those organizations become the next hosts. Choose how many tracks and years to see the scale.
Projection: one nine-fellow cohort per track per year, and about 80% placement, in line with the ~80% of Venture Partners fellows who now work in family offices, venture funds, and other capital-deploying organizations. These are on top of the 200+ fellows already trained.
The people behind it
A coalition, not a solo program
