Decentralizing Wealth and Shifting Power Back to Local Communities
The VP Residency and the Confluence Retreats: twenty people converging to build decentralized, community-rooted capital, together, over two years.
The need
Communities have the ideas. We give them the resources to build.
The systems that decide how capital moves are often disconnected from the communities most affected by them. At the same time, people holding significant capital increasingly want to move it differently, but lack the relationships and structures to do so.
Think of a river. Every stream begins somewhere different. At a confluence, they come together without losing their identity and become part of something larger.
Twenty people. Different relationships to money, power, and access.
Over two years they build relationships, reimagine how money and power move, and create 10 decentralized, community-rooted capital vehicles, rooted in love, trust, and shared responsibility.
Two tracks, one cohort
Builders and wealth holders are never two sides of a transaction
Everyone is both teacher and learner, and everyone examines their own relationship to money, power, and belonging. This is about changing more than where money goes: the relationships, power, and decision-making structures around it.
Fellowship alumni
Pulled primarily from Venture Partners’ Fellowship alumni, each arrives with a clear commitment to their community and a project that draws on their training.
Develop and establish
Work full-time to develop, launch, and establish a sustainable path for a community-rooted capital vehicle.
A dedicated paid advisor

Already resourced, wanting to move differently
People looking for real relationships and belonging, not another donor circle.
Expertise, time, networks
An active role in the vehicles builders are creating, not just capital.
The same retreats and gatherings
Relationships built over time, not a one-off transaction.
The journey
Two tracks converge into one cohort
Select a stage to see how relationships and capacity turn into new capital infrastructure.
The Confluence Retreats
Four week-long journeys. One question.
What happens when twenty people from different walks of life learn together to see and support each other as humans first? Each retreat is designed by social workers and facilitators trained in the Trauma of Money framework, held off the grid in extraordinary landscapes, guided by people who know the land.
“Everyone wants to live in a world where they feel loved, held, and part of a community. We are creating that space for people who don’t fit the traditional constructs of community.”
Alumni already in motion
People without a finance background, building real financial infrastructure
We are asked what this Residency will actually produce. These alumni came in with little to no finance background and have gone on to build new financial initiatives in their own communities.

Adriana Román

Paola Villatoro

Chloe Hsy
Bay Area, CABrought startup and climate-tech experience. Now supports a housing liberation fund focused on affordable rent preservation, keeping long-time residents in their homes.

Christopher Padilla
Austin, TXUsed his financial background to help clients build wealth legacies. Now building revenue-based financing SPVs for business acquisitions: capital that does not require giving up ownership.

Zhou Fang
Portland, ORRuns an intersectional-design consulting firm. Through the Fellowship created a research focus on active rest and restoration models for businesses and the people who run them.

Love Jonson
Portland, ORSpent nearly a decade supporting Portland's city planning. After the Fellowship, pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology on how place and identity shape economic power.
We don’t yet know which ten capital vehicles the next cohort will build. These alumni show what is possible when everyday people are centered in financial leadership.
What the Residency produces
See what each cycle adds up to
Each cohort is a two-year cycle. Choose how many cycles to see the cumulative reach.
Based on 20 people and 10 vehicles per cycle, each vehicle reaching at least 200 to 300 people in a small community (shown at the 200 floor, up to 300). This does not count the change in how each wealth holder and builder moves capital and power in their own communities.

Why this requires philanthropic investment
Patient capital for work that takes time
Building new capital structures takes time, experimentation, and trust, work that rarely fits traditional investment timelines. This is catalytic philanthropy: investing in the people, relationships, and experimentation that make new forms of capital possible and create pathways for more capital to follow.
